"Adolescents need help from therapists in finding exit strategies from their problems that keep intact their sense of dignity." - Janet Sasson Edgette -
The adolescent years are ones of experimenting with identity and growing emotionally, intellectually, and physically. Teens want to become independent, figure themselves out, and find their power amidst a stressful and chaotic world in which they live. They may want to, but they cannot do this alone. Yet, as we help them along, we must allow them the space to explore, grow, make mistakes, feel strong or difficult emotions, and grow their confidence so they feel able to overcome life's obstacles.
Areas of Focus:

Part of my job as your child's therapist is to help support you as parents or guardians. During treatment, I like to schedule monthly parent meetings to discuss changes, barriers, and general support, or, if need be, provide resources if you're interested in utilizing counseling for yourself.
Your Therapy: Talk, Play, Trust, Grow.
Have a safe and confidential place to feel comfortable talking about your thoughts, feelings, relationships, and more. This is YOUR space and time.
Learn how to grow your confidence, independence, and self-agency so you can engage your obstacles
Learn to stop avoiding, and build the skills to face your struggles
Discuss matters that are important to you. This could be related to identity, social life, family, media, current events, school, meaning and purpose, or anything that is on your mind
Improve your mood. Improve skills on how to handle anxiety. Improve skills on how to avoid arguing while still expressing what your needs are.
Discover how patterns of thinking and behavior impact you, and how they can be changed for the better so as not to repeat these patterns.
And more. Again, this is your space, and we discuss what you feel is important, what you want to talk about, and how you think things can change for the better.
